Vote of No Confidence on Speaker concludes in Vishwamitra

On February 13 Lord William Cooper, a member of the House of People and Leader of Opposition proposed a Vote of No Confidence against the current Speaker Matthew Tonna.

Matthew Tonna an extremely controversial micronationalist has faced criticism for a long time over numerous comments and actions he has made. He has previously made false claims about a Maltese ambulance being hijacked by Islamists and claimed the media refused to report on it to spread a "constant propaganda of multi-culturalism"

Full statement made by Matthew Tonna on 3 November 2021 in the Cupertino Alliance discord server.

"It's easy to judge from another continent. The situation in Malta is not the same as the situation in Spain, let alone the US. The Maltese Culture is being destroyed as we speak, by vandals and Islamists (only one terrorist attack so far, and you won't find it on any Media site.)

Once, an ambulance was called to Fgura (where the YeLand SAR is located), and it was supposed to collect an old man, nothing strange so far. But, suddenly two I don't know what to call them, attacked the nurse and hijacked the ambulance. This did not appear on any news website so that the constant propaganda of "Multi-Culturalism" keeps on going. By the way, they are still running around and loom large. So tell me now, is it good that those terrorists did that?"

This garnered much criticism from many individuals in the MicroWiki community with many saying it was Islamaphobic and now refer to him as the "ambulance man". Matthew Tonna has also been criticised for transphobia, most notably when he said in a discord chat that he was tempted to change a trans micronationalist's name to their name before they were trans essentially deadnaming them.

Lord Cooper's justification for the motion was that Article 12 of the Vishwamitra Constitution gives LGBTQ+ persons certain inalienable rights protecting against hate and harassment and that the same article gives the state power to ensure the rights are upheld.

Prime Minister Farhaz Hazarika came out in opposition to this vote of no confidence stating that he does not support it. Rory McPhail and Jayden Dagda have been most vocal in opposing the motion of no confidence.

Rory McPhail stated:

"My Right Honourable Colleagues,

Whilst the acts of Lord Tonna are questionable, they do not directly affect any Citizens of Vishwamitra, nor do they pose a direct impact to our state, our citizenry or our monarch.

Lord Tonna has done an exceptional job in his duties as Speaker of the House of People, and I have every faith he will continue to do so.

The issue brought up has no actual effect, and the going ahead of this action is completely unecesary, unbeneficial and inefficient.

Lord Tonna is a successful, efficient and supported Vishwamitran Politicans, who has every right to remain in this house."

Jayden Dagda (who is not a member of the House of the People) published a document challenging William Cooper's justification for the vote of no confidence. The argument Jayden Dagda used was that the constitution specifically only stated it protected the rights of citizens of Vishwamitra and that Christina Nowell is not a citizen therefore Matthew Tonna has not violated the constitution.

Matthew Tonna issued an apology where he apologized for the comments he made and to anyone they hurt.

The National People's Congress instructed all its members to vote against the vote of no confidence.

Halfway through the voting on the vote of no confidence Matthew Tonna resigned from his post as Speaker. The vote of no confidence was likely to fail if he had not resigned. He made a statement and suggested Tyler Mullins as a replacement. Rory McPhail called it "extremely unfortunate" in regards to his resignation.
