The Republic of Yu-Xia unveils new constitution

On July 19th the Crowned Republic of Yu-Xia unveiled a brand new constitution. The constitution was primarily authored by Matthew Xia, the emperor and founder of Yu-Xia. The new constitution was announced after weeks of inactivity. The document got the signatures of both the Emperor and Prime Minister.

The writing of the constitution began in February of 2022 by Matthew Xia. It has been in the works for a few months and was recently finished with the help of Nathan Jiang the current Prime Minister. The constitution took roughly ten hours of work to write. It is 12 pages long and has over 3,000 words. It is roughly the same size as the first constitution

This new constitution made many changes however one of the most notable was the removal of the Global and Local Council bicameral system in favour of a unicameral Unified Council comprised of locals and global citizens. The Unified Council will have 9 seats. Ministers used to be able to be appointed without approval from the legislative branch however the new constitution mandates that the Unified Council approves all nominees. It also makes sure there is a separation of branches (i.e. Not allowing someone to be a judge and a Unified Council member.)

The current plan is to appoint a Unified Council comprised of volunteers until an election can be put together. This strategy was used when the nation was first founded and ratified the first constitution.

This new constitution comes after months of inactivity in the Republic of Yu-Xia. Many are hoping that this will help the activity problem in Yu-Xia. Yu-Xia used to be very involved in the intermicronational community having both GUM and Cupertino Alliance membership. However, after months of inactivity Yu-Xia withdrew from both organizations.

It will be interesting to see if this constitution revives Yu-Xia and returns it to when it was more active. Hopefully, the condensing of the legislative branch will help revive Yu-Xia. However, it is impossible to know yet.
