Anthony Barauskis elected next Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational

Anthony Baurauski a delegate from the Republic of Tinland was elected Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational. Anthony defeated Horatio Eden in the third round with 57.58% of the vote. The runner-up Horatio Eden narrowly trailed Anthony Barauskis with 42.42% of the vote. Leon Montan came in third place being eliminated in the second round however Leon garnered 23.53% of the vote. Larry Martin came in dead last with 5.88% of the vote and was eliminated in the first round.

These results mark the end of a rocky election series plagued by decorum violations and joke campaigns. Larry Martin ran one of the joke campaigns and Leon Montan's campaign also contained satire.

It was a much different election than what the GUM had seen in previous months. A new guard micronationalist and relatively unknown micronationalist was also elected being the second new guard micronationalist to ever assume the position. The first is Jack Dean, the only difference is that Jack Dean ran an amazing and long campaign likely one of the most intensive campaigns ever seen in the micronationalist world. Anthony Baurauski's campaign was nowhere near as big.

The vice-chair and chair candidate at the time Brooklyn Hewitt's nation New Richmond withdrew from the GUM after a no-confidence motion was filed against her. New Richmond withdrew when a vote of no confidence was filed against Brooke Hewitt. Therefore, her ticket and New Richmond's vote were not valid because her nation withdrew before the end of the election. Following her departure, the GUM was plunged into a crisis. Since the chair was away and the vice-chair resigned Bradley of Dullahan the Supreme Justice then became the acting chair. Newton was then nominated to become the replacement vice-chair. A vote of no confidence was filed against Bradley of Dullahan. No vote was held since Newton was elected vice-chair and he became the new acting chair. The vote of no confidence was dismissed since Bradley of Dullahan, therefore, was no longer the acting chair. A vote of no confidence was also filed against Newton however later two of the nations who signed withdrew their signature. A very confusing situation indeed.

Anthony Baurauski and Rory McPhail campaigned on reducing elitism and increasing transparency. They made several false claims in their manifesto that we will fact-check in another article. They also heavily campaigned on making the GUM more inclusive towards other geographical regions other than Europe and America. Which has been a hotly debated and addressed topic for several terms. They also promised to work with the Cupertino Alliance and the Micronational Assembly a highly controversial organization. One of their lesser campaign promises was bringing back Help Joining GUM a Dean-era policy ended by Anthony Clark. It will be interesting to see how this election will affect the GUM.
